Algae are living creatures that multiply quite efficiently when conditions are optimal. These conditions apply in Central Florida which includes warmer temperatures, lots of sunshine and an imbalance in pool water that leaves chlorine levels lacking. Yellow algae most frequently shows up on the shady side of the pool and it can be resistant to the typical chlorine levels. Yellow algae cause major headaches for a pool owner. Algae can clog filters and use up chlorine that is needed to keep other contaminants at bay. It is important to hit yellow algae as hard as you can and as fast as you can to ensure it goes away completely and doesn’t return.  We use PoolRX to treat algae, as these pictures were take 4 days apart.

PoolRX is the product ” the pool store does not want you to know about. ” These pictures were taken a week apart, with a pool with yellow algae.    We used PoolRX in this pool, and within one week the algae was gone.  Living in Central Florida, we experience high heat and phosphates which creates a breeding ground for algae.  Most products used to treat algae utilize chlorine as an active ingredient, and end using all the chlorine in your pool.  Magic Pool Services uses PoolRX exclusively in our pools to treat and prevent algae.  It uses minerals to remove the phosphates, and kill bacteria, which creates a more a healthier swimming enviroment.  As a benefit, our tests have shown that we utilize about 40% less chlorine in these pools.

Your pool is the 2nd largest investment you own.  That being said, pools require basic maintenance.  By the book, you should test your water daily.  Let’s face it, not everyone has the time.  However, you should test your water at least once per week.    The most important aspects you need to look for is your chlorine levels, and your pH levels.   Your pH level should not exceed 7.8, and you need to maintain at least 1 – 3 parts per million chlorine.  We will explore in our blog series a highlight of each aspect of water testing.
